The Canary Islands were once called “The Fortunate Islands” because of the marvellous climate throughout the year and a profusion of sub-tropical flowers which abound everywhere. Tenerife is the largest of the islands and is famous for its warm summers and winters when the temperature is always around 75º F. It is situated off the sub-tropical coast of Africa, but has the advantage of the gentle soft sea breezes.
There is a wide variety of scenery on Tenerife, but the most dominant feature is Mount Teide set in the extinct volcanic crater of Las Cañadas. However, most visitor are impressed by the abundance of colorful exotic flowers, banana plantations, cacti, waving palm trees and the many different scents.
The capital of the island is Santa Cruz, but there are many other interesting towns and villages to visit.
On the West coast of the island is The Acantilados de Los Gigantes, where there are spectacular views along the magnificent cliffs of the rugged coastline. It is not without reason that El Hotelito has been built here with its enviable setting. |
